I appreciate them taking time last week to talk to me.

Today I just wanted to nope. Usually, I love what I do but lately it’s been brutal living on the thin edge of the wedge of two communities. I woke up feeling nope. I did do a presentation today I always love doing that.

This was the very first piece I wrote on the subject of ASD & HIV in 2015. Boy have I come a long way but I have a long way still to go. Check it out and compare it to the recent study here.

I originally wrote this as a letter to Kerry's place who I may add completely ignored me. I was very NEW and the language is horrible and my spelling i'm leaving it as it was, I'm still terrible at spelling.

Autism is a Non-Verbal social communication difference in neurology, with a narrow interest focus and repetitive behaviours. Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism, was added to the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual in 1994. These changes resulted in the current Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis in the DSM-5 (2013). Because of the changing definitions and breadth, many Autistic adults are unaware of their own Autistic Status, having been missed, or misdiagnosed, in childhood. Acquiring a diagnosis in Toronto is not easy and on average it takes about two years to get a final diagnosis, and can be prohibitively expensive. Not having a Diagnosis leaves people without informed choices. They experience uncomfortable communication breakdowns they cannot explain, and this leads to high risk factors in personal relationships, that can lead to HIV infection.

I have recently written about the Denver Principles and how I feel that we have missed a lot of the point we have covered quite a few points with GIPA / MIPA (Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS or Meaningful Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS) but have we really achieved this meaningful involvement goal?

With so many ableist microaggressions in the HIV community can we really practise trauma informed care?

I guess first I have to explain why I say there are ableist microaggressions.

I often am called or told that I am or my situation is challenging. There is a fundamental problem that I have with this word. For me as an Autistic person, I don’t call women Bossy or refer to Older adults as useless. it’s a derogatory word and concept.

Without a doubt HIV / AIDS, does meaningful involvement right. I know some in HIV will disagree but I have something to compare it to and involvement is better than no involvement and I understand not all organizations are great at supporting the Developmntally Disabled community.

Theirs a thing in the Autism community, that’s so horrific we cannot name it. It’s so, taboo, amongst the Neurotypicals in our lives that we cannot label it, we cannot identify it, in fact Autistic people often mistake it for love.

To Be Heard And An Attempt At Understanding Can Be Enough

From a quote on The Art of Autism quote page, Dani Bowman says “English is my 2nd language. Autism is my first.” This beautifully illustrates that contrast between how a neurotypical (that is, one who does not have Autism) thinks, acts, and sees the world, and how someone with Autism does. Our world is completely, totally, and utterly different.
